SmileAge Initiative Trust (SAI_T) is a non-profit closing India's most overlooked health gap — the space between knowing and doing. We work at the intersection of oral health, general health, and community empowerment, turning evidence into everyday action so people can age with dignity, choice, and purpose.
SmileAge Initiative Trust (SAI_T) was founded to close India's most overlooked health gap: the space between knowing and doing.
Founded by Dr. Shalya Anand — a dental surgeon of over 26 years in Ujjain and New Delhi, and later a global oral-health researcher — SAI_T grew out of a realisation made across decades of clinical practice: information alone rarely changes health outcomes. Families act on trusted knowledge shared in plain language within their own communities, long before they act on facts alone. That insight became the Trust's founding principle — health literacy as a "social vaccine," protecting not just the person who receives it, but everyone around them.
Today, SAI_T works at the intersection of oral health, general health, and community empowerment — guided by the World Health Organization's definition of Healthy Ageing as preserving the functional ability that lets people live with dignity, choice, and purpose in later life.
We treat clear, actionable health knowledge the way public health treats immunization: something that protects not just the person who receives it, but everyone around them.
Daily oral hygiene, timely HPV vaccination for children aged 9–12, and recognising the links between oral and overall health — small, repeatable actions our programs are built around.
Every informed household lowers the burden on the next — understanding spreads through neighbours, classrooms, and clinics long before illness sets in.
To advance healthy ageing across India by making health literacy accessible at every life stage — strengthening prevention, closing gaps in access to oral and general healthcare, and building community-led systems of trusted, evidence-based information.
